Skydiving Adventure – Level 1 Complete

So I finally got back into skydiving again after a 5 year hiatus. I decided to go to Skydive Toronto right next to barrie after checking it out the weekend before to get a vibe for the place and see how it operates. Check in was pretty simple and quick, class size was good which went lots of time to absorb everything. I liked that they train you in hanging rigs so you get a feel for actually being in the rig after chute deployment. I found it more a refresher then anything, picked up a few things I didn’t learn before though so I learned something none the less. I chatted with some of them during breaks and after the course and made a few friends which is always cool. Instructors and staff are very helpful when you have any questions. Sadly they were so busy that I had to return the next morning but got on the first plane up. The view of Barrie was pretty nice on the way up. Once we were at 12500 feet the door opening up. I didn’t feel at fear at all but my brain was definitely screaming what the hell are you doing?!?!?! My climb out and launch were good, my arch though wasn’t all that great and my legs were bent too much. This caused me to move around a fair bit during freefall which didn’t help the instructors holding on to me at all. My first 2 practice pulls were good but my 3rd check appeared to knock the release out of my reach. At 6000 feet I did my wave and reached for the ball when my instructor had then released it for me since he had it already and I would have probably struggled to find it. I didn’t expect to pass because of it but I did and I was grateful for it. After deployment I was actually in a bit of pain due to my leg straps but being tight enough. I also got the opportunity to eat my cheat strap all the way down because I settled too far in the harness due to my legs. Although I was winded, I did my checks and followed the radio to a nice slide on my ass while enjoying the view. After driving one of my new friends to the go station, I headed home to eat, rest, and reflect on the day. Definitely going for another one soon.
